They say the first month flashes before your eyes. I don’t know what they’re talking bout.
That felt like a month to me.
Today is Dad’s birthday. So I am going to share with you his favourite poem.
The poem is Rudyard Kipling’s ‘If’ and reminds us to keep good character traits, i.e. self-confidence, courage, patience and honesty.
I carry a copy of this poem in my wallet and read it to anyone who will listen (not many, if any).
I won’t pretend that I live my life by this poem, it’s not that easy, especially when you’ve inherited the crazy gene of every Sri-Lankan female on your maternal side.
However, maybe it’s the ‘stiff upper lip’ of him being an Englishman, or maybe it’s just that he’s a total fking legend. But I can honestly say I think Dad’s got it down pat.
So here it is.
